Games and Product Roadmap 2024

Emmerse Studios is an indie game development company in the UK, known for its flagship card game, Quirk!. The studio is focused on creating more games derived from the Quirk! world and this blog post takes you through what games are available to play right now, and which games are currently in development.

Quirk!

Quirk! is the Act-It-Out family card game, where your aim is to collect the most sets of Quirks. A Quirk is a character, such as a Unicorn, Dog, Parrot, Pirate or Superhero but to collect them, you must act out the card you want to win from your hand and ask another player for it. If they have it, they must give it to you, even if they have two!

Three of the same character makes a Quirk, so you're on your way to winning once you've collected a set. However, in this game there are also Steal, Block and Stop cards, these give you a chance for further strategy to collect the most Quirks by the end of the game. Simply steal another players collection, Block someone from stealing from you or Stop another player asking for your character.

Once all 13 characters are collected, the game ends! Whoever has the most Quirks is the winner!

The game comes with 2 games of Quirk! inside which can be mixed together to create a bigger game.

If you play with one deck, you can expect:

  • 15 - 30 mins of game play

  • For 2 - 6 players

  • Fun for all ages (recommended 5+ years)

  • Not asking for a Lion, Roaring for it!

  • Your family showing off their wild side!

The game is available from Gibsons and Amazon.

Go Quirk!

Go Quirk! is the single-player digital card game of the physical game. Face off against 3 other Mischief Monsters as you make your way to collecting the most Quirks. The game comes with a digital sticker book so every time you win a Quirk it gets added to your sticker book collection.

The same rules apply to the digital game as the physical card game, the only difference is you're not acting it out. Your aim is to complete your sticker book by collecting all the Quirk characters over multiple games.

There are 4 decks in the digital version, allowing you to explore the two original decks from Quirk! and two never before seen decks and characters. Every time you fill up a sticker book, you unlock the next deck and set of characters to collect. You can also make them bronze, silver and gold if you collect the same characters over multiple games.

Great for both children and adults, for casual play with a touch of strategy, memorizing and collecting.

You can expect:

  • Each game taking 5 minutes to complete.

  • Cute characters, animations and sounds.

  • Tutorial to walk you through game play.

  • 52 unique characters to collect.

  • 100% game completion in a minimum of 1 hour 20 mins.

  • RRP: £2.99

Go Quirk! is available on Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Steam for PC.

Quirk! Origins: A Jester's Tale

A short 2D story, point and click game where you play as a hopeful Jester embarking on his quest to become a Court Jester for the Royals of Playcardia. All characters are based on traditional playing cards and the game has you searching for tricks to play on unsuspecting victims to make each royal laugh and perform for them.

Follow the Jester on his quest to become the best and most respected authority in all the land and learn of his adventure across realms as he comes face to face with the dazzling characters from Quirk!

Available to wishlist on Steam

Quirk! Origins: A Jester's Tale is a prologue to Mischief Monster: A World of Pranks. We continue his story into the next game.

Mischief Monster: A World of Pranks

Things have gone terribly wrong in the Quirk! World. It's been filled with pranks by a new visitor who is absolutely enjoying the havoc its causing the Quirk folk. Only the most mischievous character can take on such funny and fiendish plans to take over the world, our hero: The Mischief Monster. We fight mischief with mischief in this game of ultimate payback and save the world in the process.

Mischief can take on the abilities of other Quirk characters, if he has access to their Quirk, a set of 3 collectables (sounds familiar). It's your job to find the quirks scattered across the land and unite them to gain their abilities to progress through the world and remove the blasted pranks. Restore all the goodness, then reclaim the Quirk throne from the greedy hands of our new visitor: The Jester. Yes, the very Jester who finds himself in the Quirk! world in his own story, A Jester's Tale.

This game is in early development. We are looking into the abilities we want to showcase from the Quirk world and bring the world together in a fun, funny and exciting way. For now, we've released an early prototype to demonstrate Mischief's abilities in a world where anvils are falling from the sky. This prototype doesn't represent the look and feel of the game, only the Pufferfish mechanic we are currently exploring.

The game is playable on Windows PCs. It's also available to wishlist on Steam.

Development

Both Quirk! Origins: A Jester's Tale and Mischief Monster: A World of Pranks are both in different stages of development. As a small team, we can only work on one thing at a time, depending on self-funded budgets and varying team size, sometimes it's just one developer and other times we have scope for more help. That's why we currently don't have an estimated time frame on these projects.

We want to create the best games we can, with where we are and the skills we have. We are exploring more of the technology all the time and also building upon our skillsets.

A Jester's Tale is currently being rescoped to create a better player experience. It is currently in pre-production and has been on pause while we delivered Go Quirk! to all platforms and scope the Mischief Monster Game.

Mischief Monster: A World of Pranks is still in the concepting, prototype and pre-production stage, we are playing with ideas to see what works and what feels like a cohesive game to fit the narrative that we would love to deliver.
